Description	:	Wilhelmina Gustina "Minnie" Sewart Krohn was born on January 6, 1847 in Suckow, Pommern, Prussia (modern day Żuköwo, West Pomerania, Poland). Her father was August Ferdinand Sievert and her mother was Augustine Wilhelmine Holtzhüter. Unfortunately Minnie was born after her father's Ferdinand's passing, having died seven months before. Read More	Wilhelmina Gustina "Minnie" Sewart Krohn was born on January 6, 1847 in Suckow, Pommern, Prussia (modern day Żuköwo, West Pomerania, Poland). Her father was August Ferdinand Sievert and her mother was Augustine Wilhelmine Holtzhüter. Unfortunately Minnie was born after her father's Ferdinand's passing, having died seven months before. With Minnie's birth her mother Augustine was now raising three children: Minnie and older siblings Edward and Frederick. Minnie's mother Augustine would remarry several years later, in 1850, to Christian Wohlfeil. Through this marriage the family would grow larger, Minnie gaining three step-sisters: Frederika, Lina and Emily. In 1860, with Millie being 13 years old, the (now Wohlfeil) family left relatives behind for opportunities in the United States. They emigrated from Repplin, Pommern, Prussia, voyaging aboard the Sir Robert Peel from Hamburg, arriving in New York City on the 12th of May, 1860. Eventually their journey took them to Effington, Illinois, where the Wohlfeil / Sewart family would remain for much of the next twenty-some years. In Effington Minnie met Frederick T. Krohn, also a recent immigrant from Prussia. They would marry on June 13, 1864. Eleven children were born through this union, six living to adulthood. The Krohn family would remain in Effington County farming for many years. In 1881 the Krohns packed their belongings again and moved west, to recently opened lands in Kansas, settling in Lawrence Township of Cloud County. Minnie's brother Fred had arrived in this part of Kansas only a year earlier, and her brother Edward would later follow in 1885. Sisters Emily, Lina and her parents Christian and Augustine would also settle close over the next few years. The Wohlfeil / Sewart clan would remain close throughout their lives. Fred passed away in 1903 and Minnie in 1926. Both are buried in Hollis Cemetery in Cloud County. She came to America with her parents at the age of 13. They settled in Effingham County, Illinois. She was married at that place to Frederick Krohn, June 13, 1864. To this union eleven children were born, four dying in infancy and one, Fred, at the age of two. Mr. and Mrs. Krohn and their family came to Kansas in 1881 and settled in the North Lawrence township where they resided until the time of her death. Her husband preceded her in death, November 7, 1903. She is survived by five sons: Charles F. and Clarence G. of Hollis, Ed of Talmo, Otto A. of Wayne and Gus W. of Concordia; one daughter, Annie Price, of Clyde; also two half-sisters, Mrs. Ernestine Durant of Hollis and Mrs. Milly Speers of Logan, KS; besides eleven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends to mourn her loss. Funeral services were held on Thursday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock at the M.E. Church in Hollis, conducted by Dr. Magee, pastor of the First United Methodist Church at Concordia, in the presence of a large congregation of people of that community, which is a fine testimonial of the high esteem in which she was held by those who had known her and loved her for her sterling worth during all the years of her residence in that community. Burial was at Hollis Cemetery.
