Wilhelmina was born on June 25, 1911, at Pease, Minnesota, the daughter of John and Johanna (Hubers) Hubers. As a teenager, she and her family moved to Hull, where she graduated from the Western Christian Academy. There she was active in musical groups and played basketball. She then took a year's teacher's training in Kearny, Nebraska, after which she taught school in Rock Valley and Hull and Leota, Minnesota. On June 9, 1938, she married Fred Van Schepen in Hull. They made their home at Hull, where Minnie was a homemaker and also assisted her husband at Van's Implement, including serving as bookkeeper and parts manager. She also worked for many years as a library and study hall monitor at Western Christian High School in Hull. After several years of productive and enjoyable retirement, which included much travel, Fred and Minnie became residents of Pleasant Acres. Fred passed away on January 6, 1998, in Hull. She was a charter member of the Hope Christian Reformed Church, where she participated in the women's activities. She enjoyed entertaining in her home, gardening, canning, and sewing; she was known as a good cook. Mrs. Van Schepen was a faithful wife and mother, and she loved visiting with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, as well as friends from her church and community. Survivors include four children and their spouses, Janice, Marlys, Bruce and Tim; a daughter-in-law, Betty; nineteen grandchildren, 43 great-grandchildren, and six great-great-grandchildren. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Creston "Tess" Van Schepen; a son-in-law, Bob De Jong; two brothers, Henry and Bert Hubers; and two sisters, Jennie Van Roekel and Dena Van Pykeren.
