Obituary, 2 August 1941 "Mrs. David Wiegand a resident of this community for 71 years and of this city since 1907, passed away at her home last Saturday afternoon after a lengthy period of ill health. She had reached the age of 76 years, 4 months and 14 days. Born on March 18, 1865, at West Preuseu, Germany, Wilhelmina, daughter of Ernest and Mathilda Benz, came with her parents to the United States when she was but five years of age. The family came directly to Nebraska and Dodge county and located on a homestead in Ridgeley Twp.. Here she grew to womanhood. On March 30, 1883, she was united in marriage to David Wiegand, the ceremony taking place on the old Wiegand homestead with the late Rev. Muller officiating. This union was blessed with six children, four boys and two girls, all of whom survive. Mrs. Wiegand and her husband braved many of the hardships incident to those pioneer days but in spite of setbacks, they persevered and saw their homestead become one of the best and most productive farms in Dodge county. In 1907, Mr. and Mrs. Wiegand retired from active work on the farm and moved into Scribner to enjoy the fruits of their labors. During the earlier years of their retirement they traveled quite extensively and visited many parts of the United States. On March 30, 1933, Mrs. Wiegand with her husband celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary but on the following November Mr. Wiegand passed away. Since then her home companions were her two grandsons, Woodrow and Donald Wiegand, whom she raised from young childhood. During the past year her son, Herman, made his home with her. Mrs. Wiegand was an active and charter member of the United Lutheran in Scribner and also was active in the work of the Missionary Aid. Of true faith and splendid sincerity, she lived in helpfulness to everyone whose life she touched. Those surviving her are the four sons, William of Lance Creek, Wyo., Ernest, of Manville, Wyo., Henry, of Oakland, Cal., and Herman in Scribner; two daughters, Mrs. Martha Hall of Pender and Mrs. Laura Hinricksen, of Lance Creek, Wyo. There are 20 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren, also one sister, Mrs. Mathilda Negley of Norfolk, three brothers, Julius Bentz of Portland, Ore., John Bentz of Snyder and August Bentz of Pender and one half-brother, Anton of Rapid City, S.D. Funeral services, conducted by Rev. C.M. Alexander, were held at 2 o'clock on Tuesday afternoon from the United Lutheran. Burial was made in Pebble cemetery."
