Read More	Obituary, 7 November 1933 "David John Wiegand, one of the earlier settlers of this community, passed away at his home in Scribner, at an early hour Tuesday morning from cancer. He became seriously ill with the affliction about three months ago, but with the exception of short intervals during that time he has made trips to town and only about ten days ago had made a call to the post office. Since then he had been confined to his bed in a critical condition. The deceased was a resident of this community for sixty-five years, of which twenty-six years were spent in Scribner. He was born at Hampton, Illinois., on May 30, 1859, and died at Scribner, Neb., on November 7, 1933, at the age of 74 years, 6 months and 74 days. (8 days) When ten years old, he came with his parents to Dodge county and settled on a farm in Ridgeley Twp.. On March 30, 1883, he was united in marriage to Minnie Bentz to which union were born six children, all of whom are still living. Mr. and Mrs. Wiegand celebrated their golden wedding anniversary last March. Mr. Wiegand was among the earlier settlers of Dodge county having come here in a covered wagon. He grew to young manhood on the homestead of his parents during those days of hardships and privations when transformation of the great prairies was started to develop the fertile agricultural land of today. He lived on the old home place for about forty years, helping with the work until the death of his parents, after which he farmed the place for himself. In 1907 he retired from active work and moved his family to Scribner which has been his home since. During their retired life he and his wife traveled quite extensively, visiting many sections of the United States. While a resident of Ridgeley Twp. he served on the school board of his district from time to time, and also was one of the organizers of the little church five miles southwest of Scribner known as a branch of St. John's Lutheran. He was one of the earlier road bosses in his district and helped build a number of county roads. Those left to mourn his loss besides the wife are the following children: William Wiegand, Mrs. Carl Holl and Mrs. Adolph Hinrichsen of Lance Creek, Wyo.; Ernest Wiegand of Manville, Wyo., Henry Wiegand of California; Herman Wiegand of Scribner; a sister, Mrs. John Rexin of Scribner; 18 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 2 o'clock Friday afternoon at the Congregational church, Rev. G.R. Birch officiating. Burial will be made in Pebble cemetery."
