Description	:	Willa Louise (Johns) Zanol, 93, a longtime resident of Orondo, passed away Friday, March 9, 2001, in Colonial Vista Care Center, after a long illness. She was born to William and Louise (Horstman) Johns on Oct. 13, 1907, in Columbia City. She was called Doots by her friends and family all of her life, a nickname given to her by an aunt when she was a baby. In 1911, she moved to Orondo with her parents and older sister Elsie. Read More	Willa Louise (Johns) Zanol, 93, a longtime resident of Orondo, passed away Friday, March 9, 2001, in Colonial Vista Care Center, after a long illness. She was born to William and Louise (Horstman) Johns on Oct. 13, 1907, in Columbia City. She was called Doots by her friends and family all of her life, a nickname given to her by an aunt when she was a baby. In 1911, she moved to Orondo with her parents and older sister Elsie. The family soon grew to two brothers, Kenneth Johns, Albert Johns and a sister, June Johns (Hanger). In 1925, she married Ben Zanol in Penticton, B.C. To this marriage was born two sons, Ben Zanol, Jr. and Richard "Gene" Zanol. She and her husband were orchardists until her husband passed away. Willa packed apples for many years in Entiat and Orondo and in their own packing shed. After she could no longer pack, she sorted for many years. Willa was a member of the Orondo Grange, Orondo Grange Auxiliary, the Orondo Ladies Club and the Orondo Community Church (Presbyterian) and the Naomi Circle. She was instrumental in the renovation and revitalization of the Orondo Cemetery and was a board member until 1999. In the summers, she and her husband enjoyed spending time at Westport. Willa was preceded in death by her husband, Ben Zanol, Sr., a sister, June Hanger (Johns) and a brother, Albert Johns. She is survived by a son, Gene Zanol of Wenatchee; a sister, Elsie Stannard of Orondo; a brother, Kenneth Johns of East Wenatchee; a sister-in-law, Florence Zanol of Orondo; five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews and friends. Memorial contributions may be made to the Orondo Community Church or to the Orondo Cemetery. Arrangements are by Telford's Chapel of the Valley, East Wenatchee.
