The Boothby Funeral Home, Cherokee, was in charge of arrangements. He was born April 6, 1897, in Lagen, Germany, to Julius and Bertha (Mueller) Roepke. He came to the United States in April 1903, with his family and settled- in the Kingsley Area. He moved to Grand Meadow Township in 1921, where he lived until June 1990, when he became a resident of the Colonial Manor at Correctionville. He was married to Dora Carver on June 15, 1929, at Yankton, S.D. He was affiliated with the [Meadow Star United Methodist Church. He was a veteran of World War I, serving in the Rainbow Division. He was a charter member of the Kingsley American Legion and a member of the Washta American Legion. He had received a 75 year membership pin and also the World War I Commemorative Medal. He was a former member of the Washta School Board. Survivors include: his wife, two sons, Wayne and his wife, Rosemary, of Cherokee; Melvin and his wife, Darlene of Washta; two daughters, Mary and her husband Gordon Sorensen of Galva, Sarah and her husband Roger Fuhrman of Cleghorn; 11 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Otto and Paul.
