Description	:	William Alexander grew to manhood in Page County, Iowa and in August 1862 enlisted in Company K. Fourth Iowa Infantry and served until he was honorably discharged at the end of his term of enlistment which was in September 1864 during which time he participated in the Battle of Vicksburg, was in a number of engagements on the Atlanta campaign, and was at Kenesaw Mountain, June 27, 1864. Read More	William Alexander grew to manhood in Page County, Iowa and in August 1862 enlisted in Company K. Fourth Iowa Infantry and served until he was honorably discharged at the end of his term of enlistment which was in September 1864 during which time he participated in the Battle of Vicksburg, was in a number of engagements on the Atlanta campaign, and was at Kenesaw Mountain, June 27, 1864. At the latter battle, he was wounded by being struck on the head by a piece of shell, but was not disabled. He was also in the battle of July 22, when they twice charged and recovered two forts, after Gen. McPherson fell, and on July 28, when Gen. Logan, with the Fifteenth Corps whipped two corps of rebels under Gen. Hood. Mr. Wright was discharged at Jonesboro, and returned to Iowa, spending one year in Des Moines County, and then went to Page County, where he made his home until 1882, at which time he came to Nebraska and purchased the place on which he now lives. This place comprises 150 acres of rich bottom land on Lost Creek, the farm cornering with the corjjoration on the northwest of Superior, and is a very valuable and desirable property. He has a good one-and one-half story residence, and has planted an orchard of 150 trees, all choice varieties, besides a quantity of small fruits. He was married in Page County, Iowa, on February 6, 1868, to Miss Mary Ann Gilmore, a native of Pennsylvania, and the daughter of William Gilmore, who moved to Page County, Iowa, in 1861. This union has resulted in the birth of nine children, six of whom are still living, viz. : Robert G., Eva M., Etta Mabel, William M., Wilma and Nellie B. James M. , Edwin G. and Harlen died in infancy, the two former dying in Page County, Iowa, and the latter in Nuckolls County, Neb. Both Mr. and Mrs. Wright are members of the Reformed Presbyterian Church, the former being the treasurer and a deacon. In politics Mr. Wright was formerly a Republican, but he now casts his vote with the Prohibition party. He is a very courteous gentleman, having a kind word for all, and is greatly honored and esteemed.
