Stephens, a prominent farmer residing on the Clarence Bowlus farm four miles south of this city, died quite suddenly Friday evening, death having been caused by an abscess on the brain. Some time ago Mr. Stephens complained of a pain behind the right ear and consulted a local physician who advised an operation to secure necessary relief. Later he consulted a city specialist who attempted a cure without an operation. Some time ago Mr. Stephens complained of a pain behind the right ear and consulted a local physician who advised an operation to secure necessary relief. Later he consulted a city specialist who attempted a cure without an operation. He seemed to get better for a time but last week the trouble settled in the right side of his face inducing paralysis of the facial muscles. Friday morning he took suddenly worse and suffered excruciating pain. Death relieved his sufferings about 5:30 o'clock that evening. Funeral services, conducted by Rev. George Cramer of the M.E. church, were held Sunday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock and interment made in the West Lebanon cemetery. William A. Stephens, son of Henry and Lina Jane Stephens, was born in Warren county, Indiana, January 14, 1863, and died August 19th, 1910, aged 47 years, 7 months and 5 days. He was married to Emma Ware, daughter of Achillis and Elizabeth Ware, August 12, 1893, making their married life, which was peaceful and happy, just a few days over seventeen years, and during this time there were born to them three daughters, all of whom survive him - Beatrice, Edith and Ethel. Will, as he was usually called, was an honest, upright and industrious man and has always lived in this neighborhood, making many friends, and but few enemies. He leaves a mother, three brothers and five sisters to mourn his untimely departure. His father and five sisters having preceded him to the clime of the great beyond. He was a brother of Mrs. Ira Caldwallader, Mrs. Nathaniel Isler of Danville, Illinois and Mrs. Ora Ford of Plano, Illinois. J.C. Stephans of Williamsport and James Stephens of this place.
