Asthma and heart trouble, from which he had been a sufferer for three years, caused the death of William Moran at his home in the northeast part of town Tuesday, Oct. 11. Mr. Moran was able to be up and around until Monday night, when he became fatally ill, death coming to thim at 9:45 o'clock Tuesday morning. He was in his 60th year. Monmouth, Ill., was the birthplace of Mr. Moran, and date of his birth was May 20, 1862. His marriage to Miss Anna Barrett took place in Lincoln August 26, 1887; they establishing a home at Raymond, where they continued residence until moving to David City 15 years ago. Mr. Moran was a farmer and laborer during his lifetime, working diligently until ill health overtook him. Thereafter he spent his time at home, working in his garden and doing various small tasks at his home as he was able. He was a kindly man and made many friends. He was a devout member of the Catholic church, and belonged to two fraternal orders, the Knights of Columbus and the Modern Woodmen. Surviving Mr. Moran are his wife and seven children, two sons and five daughters. Mr. and Mrs. Moran's two first born children, Theresa and Elizabeth, died in childhood. The living children are Tom, John, Julia, Margaret, Cletas and Dorothy, living at home, and Mrs. Mary Hanson, living at Davey. Three sisters, Mrs. J. J. Barrett of David City and Mrs. Mary Murphy and Mrs. Catherine Burns of Crookston, Minn., and one granddaughter also survive Mr. Moran. This (Thursday) morning funeral services were held in St. Mary's Catholic church at 9 o'clock, conducted by Rev. Bernard Sproll. B. H. Eiting, Lawrence Kearney, John Lanspa, August Miller, P. A. Tomek and Peter Vanderheiden were pallbearers. Interment was in the David City Catholic cemetery. In attendance at the funeral from away were Mr. and Mrs. Henry Hanson of Davey, son-in-law and daughter of Mr. Moran, John Cunningham of Zenda, Kas., a cousin of Mr. Moran, Miss Mary Barrett and Tom Barrett of Agnew, sister and brother of Mrs. Moran, and Mr. and Mrs. John Martin of Valparaiso, brother-in-law and sister of Mrs. Moran. _____ Card of Thanks - We extend heartfelt thanks to all the friends for their many acts of kindness and sympathy during our time of sorrow. '''''''''''''''''''''''''''' People's Banner (David City, Nebr.), October 13, 1921, p. 9, col. 5 DEATH OF WILLIAM MORAN The people of David City were sad to learn of the death of Mr. William Andrew Moran which occurred at 9:45 Tuesday morning. For three years he had been troubled with a complication of diseases, asthma being seemingly the main annoyance. Monday night he took worse and from then on did not rally. Mr. Moran was born on May 20, 1862 in Monmouth, Illinois. He was married in Lincoln to Miss Anna Barrett on August 26, 1887. Five daughters and two sons were born to this union. Before coming to David City they lived in and around Raymond, Nebraska, for 15 years, moving here in 1906. Mr. Moran was a devout member of the Catholic church. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and of the Modern Woodman of America. When in health he was a hardworking man caring most faithfully for his family and the needs of his home. He leaves to mourn to death his wife, five daughters, Mrs. Henry Hanson of Davey, Julia, Margaret, Dorothy and Cletas, two sons Thomas and John, and three sisters Mrs. Mary Murphy, Mrs. Catherine Burns of Crookston, Minnesota and Mrs J. J. Barrett of David City. The funeral was held this Thursday morning from St. Mary's church, David City, Rev. Father Sproll conducting the services. Those from out of town in attendance at the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. Henry Hanson a daughter of Agnew, Mr. and Mrs. John Martin of Valparaiso, Mr. and Mrs. Tom Barret and Miss Mary Barrett of Agnew sisters and brothers of Mrs. Moran, and a cousin of the deceased Mr. John Cunningham of Zenda, Kansas. The body was laid to rest in the David City Catholic cemetery. ____________ CARD OF THANKS We wish to express our thanks and sincere appreciation for the thoughtfulness and kindness of our neighbors and friends during the illness and death of our beloved husband and father.
