He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Janet Meeks; an infant sister; and twin grandsons. William Reade was born July 22, 1918, in Anamosa, Iowa, the son of Clarence and Margaret Hazel Waite Reade. He received his education in the Wyoming School system, where he graduated in 1935. William then started farming with his parents. He also worked with the REC, traveling to 26 different states demonstrating how electricity would work on the farm in 1938 and 1939. William Reade met Pauline Cramer during 4-H activities. They were married May 22, 1941, in Castle Grove Township, Jones County, Iowa, at her parents' home. The couple farmed in Wyoming Township for 37 years and also operated the Onslow Grain Elevator from 1967 until 1975. They retired from active farming in 1980. William was active in the community. He served in all the various offices in the Presbyterian Church and was even an honorary member of the Presbyterian Ladies Guild. He served as president of the Onslow Telephone Co., served in all offices of the Jones County Farm Bureau, the State Policy Study and Resolution committees, Castle Grove Mutual Insurance Board, FHA Board, Civil Service Board, Valley Rural School Board, Jones County Fair Board and Cedar Valley Farm Business Association and was a 4-H leader. William ran for State Representative in 1964 and 1968. He also chaired a committee on the feasibility of building elderly care facilities in Jones County in the 1960s. He was also a 50+-year member of the Masonic Lodge. Masonic rites will be provided by Ancient Landmark Lodge 200 of Olin. In lieu of flowers, please direct your memorials to St. Luke's Hospice or the Onslow Presbyterian Church.
