Mr. Devine was born Aug 26, 1891 in Hazel Green township, the son of Patrick Henry and Catherine Bridget Mulvehill Devine. At the age of four he moved with his parents to a farm in Adams township where he grew to young manhood and received his education. He was married to Amelia S. Kirschbaum August 24, 1926, at Ryan and they farmed in the Ryan area until they retired in 1954 and moved to Manchester to make their home. Surviving are his wife; three children, the Rev. William Devine of Eldora, Mrs. Robert (Rosemary) McAleer of Cedar Rapids and Bernard Devine of Ryan, and thirteen grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, three children, four brothers and four sisters. Principal celebrant of the funeral mass for William B. Devine of Manchester last Friday morning in St. Mary's Catholic Church was the Rev. George Karnik. Concelebrating with Father Karnik were the Rev. Justine Kress, the Rev. Joseph O'Brien of Dubuque, the Rev Joseph O'Brien of Dubuque, the Rev. Richard Funke of Dubuque and the Rev. Thomas Keating of Oelwein. Other priests present in the sanctuary were the deceased son, the Rev William Devine of Eldora, the Rev. A Brosius of Petersburg, the Rev MJ O'Sullivan of Masonville, the Rev. Wilfred Schmidt of Eldora, the Rev. John Dalton of Dubugue and the Rev. David Corrigan of Denver, Colo. Internment was made in Calvary cemetery at Ryan where Father Devine read the graveside prayers assisted by Father Kress."
