Description	:	William B. Mason was born in McLean County, Illinois, the son of Joshua Rayburn and Annah Aleason (Bonebrake) Mason. When he was 6 years old, he moved with his parents and siblings from Illinois to Marion County, Iowa, settling first in Indiana, then Attica and finally Dallas Township. On January 5, 1864, William enlisted in the 40th Infantry Regiment Iowa, serving in Company F. The 40th Infantry engaged the Confederates in Arkansas throughout April, 1864, fighting at Okolona, Prairie D'Anna, Camden and Jenkins Ferry. Although the fighting was fierce during these campaigns, battle casualties were light and William remained unharmed.... Read More	William B. Following his discharge from the Grand Army of the Republic, William returned to Dallas Township and his parent's home, where he lived with his wife and children until 1873, when they relocated to Alma, Harlan County, Nebraska. William was a farmer all of his life, working first as a hired farmhand during his stay in Iowa, and then settling on his own homestead following his move to Nebraska. On December 29, 1868, he married Nancy Mary Ellen Wiley at Dallas Township. It was in Dallas that their first two children were born: Ida (1871-) and Henry L. (1873-). Following their move to Alma, three other children followed: Lester Harlan (1875-), Effie E. (1878-) and William Garrett (1880-). The year after the birth of his last child, William died at the young age of 35 years. William's brother, Albert Clippinger Mason, along with his parents, Joshua and Annah Aleason (Bonebrake), are also buried in this cemetery.
