William Campbell Brown, an old and highly respected citizen of this place, died at his home last Friday, Feb. 12, 1909, after several weeks illness of erysipelas. Aged 76 years and 12 days. He was born In Greenbrier county, West Virginia, Jan. 30, 1833, and came to Missouri with his father and family at the age of 21 and settled in Ralls county. Five year later he was married to Miss Martha Muldrow. They moved to Chicago in 1874 where he was engaged in the Live Stock Commission business for over thirty years. He retired from active business only five year ago, and two years ago moved to this place where he has since made his home. The family of six has been an unbroken circle for almost thirty years, at which time Mr. and Mrs. Brown lost a son Samuel at the age of ten years, who died in this city. The deceased leaves a wife and four children and many relatives and friends to mourn his death. Three of the children were with him during his last illness and the other one, Lee, was in Liverpool, England, and could not be present. Mr. Brown was a man of enterprise, intelligence and education. He became well-to-do in life and gave his children liberal opportunities for mental culture. Two funeral services were held, one at his home last Saturday, Feb. 13, 1909, at 1 p. m. on account of several of the family being ill and unable to go to the church, and one at the Presbyterian church at 2 p. m. Both services were conducted by Rev. C. P. Blayney. Burial in I. O. O. F. cemetery.
