Description	:	William David "Bill" Reed was born to George Riley Reed and Sarah Ann Reed on Oct. 24, 1893 and died Feb. 14, 1977 at the Gordon Memorial Hospital, Gordon. Read More	William David "Bill" Reed was born to George Riley Reed and Sarah Ann Reed on Oct. 24, 1893 and died Feb. 14, 1977 at the Gordon Memorial Hospital, Gordon. Bill's great grandfather, John Reed, moved to the Midwest from New Hampshire around 1820. John's father, Supply Reed, was a soldier in the Revolutionary War. Supply Reed's father, John Reed, was a captain in the French and Indian War. John's great great grandfather, William Reed, sailed to Boston from England in 1635. Bill was born in Crawford, NE. He worked in his earlier years at the Bert Hull ranch north of Gordon. He loved to play baseball on the team at the Hull ranch. Bill hired on as a section laborer in March 1915 with the C&NW Railroad out of Eli, NE. During Jan. 1916, he came to Gordon as a section foreman. He was appointed roadmaster in 1946 for section one out of Valentine, a post he held until his retirement in 1951 from the Chicago and Northwestern Railroad. Bill joined the Gordon Lodge No. 169 of the International Order of Odd Fellows in 1917. He became vice grand in 1919 and noble grand in 1920. He was a past district deputy grand master. He was mayor of Gordon from 1942 to 1946 and served on the city council from 1937 to 1939 and again from 1962 to 1966. He played an active part in helping develop the Antelope Creek Water Project. He was chief of the Gordon Volunteer Fire Dept. for several years. He was a member of the Gordon Presbyterian Church. Bill married Mae Mary O'Rourk on Nov. 3, 1912. Mae died in Sept. 1931. They had three sons: Emery Arnold Reed, born June 14, 1913, died Feb. 14, 1973; Thomas Shirley Reed, born Feb. 12, 1917, died Jan. 18, 1966; and Joseph LeRoy Reed, born Sept. 1931, died at birth. Bill married Edna Hatch at Albert Lea, MN on Aug. 8, 1953. He is survived by his wife, Edna of Gordon, his sister, Clara Perry of Woodland, CA, his grandson, William Michael Reed of Orange, CA, granddaughter, Patricia Ann Farkas and great granddaughter, Sara Farkas of Grand Rapids, MI; grandson, Emery Arnold Reed, Jr., great grandson, William Leonard Reed, and great granddaughter, Sheri Lenora Reed of Falls Church, VA; and granddaughter Mary Reed of Vienna, VA, plus a host of other relatives and friends.
