Description	:	William Davis Metts, Jr., formerly of Lincolnton, NC died on July 17, 2010 at Anderson Place Health Center, Anderson, SC. Born June 22, 1912 in Greenville, SC, he was the son of the late William Davis and Mary Adams Metts. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 70 years, Frances West Metts; and two sisters, Mary Naylor and Frances A. Metts. Before moving to Anderson, SC... Read More	William Davis Metts, Jr., formerly of Lincolnton, NC died on July 17, 2010 at Anderson Place Health Center, Anderson, SC. Born June 22, 1912 in Greenville, SC, he was the son of the late William Davis and Mary Adams Metts. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 70 years, Frances West Metts; and two sisters, Mary Naylor and Frances A. Metts. Mr. Metts was a native of Greenville, SC, graduating from Clemson University in 1934 with a degree in Textiles. He was a veteran of US Army serving as a Lieutenant during WW II. Before moving to Anderson, SC in 2005, Mr. Metts was a faithful member of the First Presbyterian Church in Lincolnton, NC for fifty years. He served as an elder and treasurer and was active in many aspects of the church. As a member of Lincolnton Lion's Club, he was a past President and was awarded "Lion of the Year" and also received the Jack Stickley Fellow for Humanitarian Services by North Carolina Lions Foundation. He also was an active member of the Sons of the Confederacy. After retirement from the textile mills in Gaston and Lincoln Counties, Mr. Metts spent endless hours in his garden and woodworking shop. His family and friends will remember him as a true "Southern Gentleman" with his kindness and respect for others. He is survived by his two daughters, Jeanne Miller of Huntersville, NC and Lucy Taylor and husband James of Anderson, SC. His four grandchildren are Abby Kirby and husband Doug of Mooresville, NC; Bryan Taylor and wife Wendy of Liberty, SC; Maggie Capper and husband Jason of Jim Thorpe, PA; Marc Taylor of Anderson, SC. He is also survived by seven great-grandchildren and a niece, Mary Donahue of Bethesda, MD. A Military Graveside Service will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday, July 20 in Springwood Cemetery, Greenville, SC, conducted by Reverend Samuel Hale.
