Sutter, 79, longtime York businessman, died Tuesday, Feb. 13, 2001, at York. He was born at Liberty on Dec. 14, 1921, to William W. and Enna (Mount) Sutter. Bill was a 1939 graduate of the Barnston High School and later he attended York College. He was married to Doris A. Thompson on Sept. 3, 1941, at Beatrice. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and was a Radioman First Class. Bill owned and operated the Sutter Appliance Store in York from 1950-1990. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church and the American Legion Bolton Post No. 19 where he was a past Post Commander. For the last 10 years, Bill worked at The Hearthstone in York. He is survived by his wife, Doris of York; three sons, William D. Jr. (Peggy) Sutter of York, Robert J. (Gloria) Sutter of Columbia, Mo., and David A. (Rebecca) Sutter of Midland, Texas. Also surviving are seven grandchildren and his brother, Merle Sutter of Liberty. Preceding him in death were his parents; brother Marvin; and sister Florence. Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 11 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church of York with the Rev. Harry Brown officiating. Burial will be in the Greenwood Cemetery at York. Memorials may be directed to The Hearthstone at York. Metz Mortuary of York is in charge of arrangements.
