Description	:	Dean Schaffert, 69 of Otis, passed away on May 31, 2012. William Dean Schaffert was born on August 10, 1942 to William and Martha Schaffert. Dean and Roberta "Bobbie" Bloomgren were united in marriage on February 8, 1964. To this union, two children were born; son Robert Dean "Rob" was born in 1968, and Shelly Lynn was born in 1971. Read More	Dean Schaffert, 69 of Otis, passed away on May 31, 2012. William Dean Schaffert was born on August 10, 1942 to William and Martha Schaffert. Dean and Roberta "Bobbie" Bloomgren were united in marriage on February 8, 1964. To this union, two children were born; son Robert Dean "Rob" was born in 1968, and Shelly Lynn was born in 1971. After graduating from Otis High School, Dean was drafted and served in Vietnam. Dean and Bobbie moved on the family homestead south of Otis and together with their children built a successful family farming operation. Dean was well known for his beans. There weren't many social functions that Dean didn't make the beans. In fact many times Dean would make the beans for the Otis 4th of July festivities while in the middle of harvest. (You can imagine how well that went.) Dean wouldn't share his recipe for his beans but would say "he only uses 239 beans, because one more would make them too farty!" Another of Dean's talents was his ability to witch water wells. He was a willing hand to anyone that asked, loved to visit, hunt, fish, and spend time in the mountains. Dean was a friend to many and will be sadly missed by his family and friends, his second family at CHS, his friends at Mom's Café and his special auction buddy, and his dogs Champ, Buddy, and Bugsy. Dean is preceded in death by his beloved wife Bobbie in 1995, son Rob in 2012, parents, and brother Jim. He leaves to mourn his loss daughter Shelly and husband Shane Dillon, daughter-in-law Kerri, sister Betty and husband Milton Hudson, as well as numerous friends and family. A memorial service was held Tuesday, June 5, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church of Otis. Memorial donations may be made to the Fort Morgan Humane Society, or to the First Presbyterian Church of Otis.
