He was the son of the late Mr. Gerd Dirks and Mrs. Dirks. He married Myrtle Smith July 14, 1925, in Castle Grove. The couple farmed near Anamosa and later in Hopkinton and Monticello. Surviving him are his wife, a son William Eugene of Cedar Rapids and five daughters. The daughters are Helen, Mrs. Robert Drumbarger, Hopkinton; Anna, Mrs. Lawrence Kray, Monticello; Wanita, Mrs. Gilbert Nehl, Hopkinton; and LaVonne and Dorothy Dirks, both at home. His mother also is living. Others include brothers, George of Amber, John F. of Anamosa and Reinhard of Monticello; sisters Mrs. Henry (Minnie) Harms of Monticello, Mrs. William (Clara) Oltmanns of Anamosa and Mrs. John (Anna) Martensen of Anamosa; and nine grandchildren.
