DIRKS DIES, BURIED SATURDAY Mrs. Friederike Hermine Dirks, widow of the late Gerd Dirks, died at the John McDonald hospital, Wednesday, Apr 27, after a long illness. She had been confined since a hip injury seven years ago, and had made her home with her children since. Services were held Saturday at 2 p.m. from the Wayne Zion Evangelical Lutheran church with the pastor, the Rev. Otto Zwanziger officiating and burial at Wayne cemetery. Born Sept. 14, 1880 in Hanover, Germany, she was the daughter of Dietrich and Margaretha Bodeker. She came to the United States when two years old and the family settled in Wayne Township. On Mar 2, 1899 she was married to Gerd Dirks, and they made their home in that vicinity until the couple moved to Langworthy in 1940. They were members of the Wayne Zion church. He preceded her in death on Aug. 21, 1952, as did two sons, Benhard in 1936 and William in 1959. Survivors include her son, George H. Dirks, Amber; John F. Dirks and August Dirks, Monticello; Reinhard Dirks, Center Junction; daughters Minnie, Mrs. Henry A. Harms, Monticello; Clara, Mrs. William Oltmanns and Anna, Mrs. John Martensen, both of Anamosa, Forty-three grandchildren and 46 great grandchildren also survive as do three brothers, Gerd, Wyoming, John and Henry, both Anamosa; two sisters, Mrs. Will Dirks, Monticello and Mrs. W. J. Oltmanns, Anamosa. Pallbearers were grandsons, Robert Dirks, LaVern Ulferts, Louis Harms, John Martensen, Marion G. Dirks, Gerald Dirks, Eugene Dirks and Anthony Gravel.
