Harvey was one of four sons of Rezin and Elizabeth Queen Harvey to marry daughters of Thomas and Susan Bowman Wilson. Elizabeth Wilson was born Nov., 11, 1802, and died March 2, 1875, when she was struck and killed by an express train while crossing the railroad tracks at Deer Park, Md., after visiting overnight with an ill neighbor. She was buried in the Deer Park Cemetery. A single marker was placed at her grave. This was the only source of information indicating the exact date of her death. The writer was unable to find a grave marker for William E. Harvey in the Deer Park Cemetery. It may very well be that no grave marker was ever placed at his grave. William E. Harvey, married (2) Dec., 25, 1875, Hannah Gilpin, who was fifty-six years of age at the time of marriage, and was from Garrett County.2 No further information has been obtained concerning her.Mr. Harvey was engaged for many years in the purchase and sale of land in Allegany and Garrett County, Maryland. A study of the land records of these counties reveal the many real estate transactions in which he and his wife were involved. He, and his wife and children, were listed in the 1850 Federal census for Allegany County. Shortly after 1850 he removed to Barbour County, Virginia, now West Virginia, where he continued his activities in real estate. He and his family were listed in the 1860 Federal census for Barbour County. Some time after 1860 he returned to Allegany County, now Garrett County, and eventually settled in Deer Park, Md., where he spent the remainder of his life. He was chosen as one of the first Judges of the Orphans' Court for the newly formed Garrett County, and served as judge for many years. He and Elizabeth Wilson Harvey reared a family of nine children. It is difficult to determine the chronology of his family, since the date of the birth of some of the children are not known.Following the death of William E. Harvey, the following article appeared in The Republican, Oakland, Md., March 22, 1884:William Harvey was born in Hampshire County, Virginia, now Mineral County, W. Va., April 16, 1805, and died at the residence of his son-in-law, S. Hinebaugh, near Deer Park, on the 12th inst., aged 78 years, 10 months and 26 days. In early life he married Elizabeth Wilson (in 1823) and moved to Ryan's Glade, this county, in 1840 and engaged in farming for about ten years, nearly all of which time he served as Justice of the Peace; a position he filled with credit to himself and satisfaction to all. In 1850 he moved to Barbour County, W. Va., and afterwards returned to Allegany County, Maryland (now Garrett) and engaged for a number of years in handling real estate; buying large tracts of land and selling them in small farms to suit purchasers. In 1863 he purchased the Riley farm near Deer Park. In 1864 he sold his farm, moved to Oakland, and engaged in the mercantile business with James Bishop. In 1866 he sold out his interest in the store and purchased a farm in Ryan's Glade, and in 1870 bought and removed to the Culp property in Deer Park, and again engaged in Merchandising until 1875, when on the death of his wife, he retired from business.There is a Tombstone for William E.
