At that time Mr. Buttrick was a fireman for the Chicago, Milwaukee and St. Paul railroad. Only twice during the two years did Buttrick, leave the hospital. On both occasions he obtained release from the hospital to seek medical aid. He made a trip to Chicago and another to Rochester, Minn., where he procured the services of specialists. They gave him little encouragement, however, and he returned to Sioux City. When the crash of trains occurred Buttrick was in the cab of one of the engines. The rear of the compartment struck him in the back, breaking the backbone and paralyzing his legs. The wreck occurred June 12, 1919. Funeral services were held from the Samuel Bros. chapel in Sioux City Friday morning at 10 o'clock and burial was made in Graceland Park cemetery. Mr. Buttrick leaves three children: Henry of Sioux City and Lillian and Gertrude of this city. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ (Some records show the name spelled Butrick) William Edward Buttrick was the son of Tennis J. and Eugenia (Higgins) Buttrick; he was the brother of George and step brother of Florence Marissa, and Douglas Buttrick; their mother was Melissa Higgins, sister of Eugenia). The family was listed in the 1880 census at Bigelow, Holt County, Missouri. On February 22, 1897, William married Julia Conner at Fortescue, Missouri; they moved to Lake City, Iowa in 1903.
