Description	:	William Edward "Ed" Kauk, 82, of Minden died of cancer Sunday, April 8, 2012, at his home. Ed was born Aug. 20, 1929, on a farm near Alma to William and Elsie (Baker) Kauk. In l956, he married Valerie Ramones. Survivors are: wife; and only child, Novella Mae Giddings and her husband, Woody, of Kearney; stepgranddaughter, Terri Giddings of Kearney; stepgrandson, J.R. Giddings and his wife, Jeannie; and stepgreat-grandchildren, Lexi and Logan. Read More	William Edward "Ed" Kauk, 82, of Minden died of cancer Sunday, April 8, 2012, at his home. Ed was born Aug. 20, 1929, on a farm near Alma to William and Elsie (Baker) Kauk. In l956, he married Valerie Ramones. Survivors are: wife; and only child, Novella Mae Giddings and her husband, Woody, of Kearney; stepgranddaughter, Terri Giddings of Kearney; stepgrandson, J.R. Giddings and his wife, Jeannie; and stepgreat-grandchildren, Lexi and Logan. Ed graduated from Alma High School in 1947 and enlisted in the U.S. Air Force for four years and worked in the medical division. He attended the University of Arizona in 1956. He attended Nebraska Wesleyan University in 1958 and received an AB degree in business administration. In 1956, he married Valerie Ramones from Oahu, Hawaii. She also attended Nebraska Wesleyan University. They were married in Phillipsburg, Kan., on June 8 at the Methodist parsonage. On June 9 at the Alma Methodist Church, there was a wedding and reception for relatives and friends. Following graduation, he moved to Los Angeles where he was an accountant for an oil company and a general office manager for a printing firm. He owned a triplex apartment behind his home in Englewood, Calif. In 1965, he moved to Alma where he owned the Western Holiday Motel for 10 years. He then owned the Holiday Motel in Spearfish, S.D., for a short time. He moved from South Dakota to Reno, Nev., in 1981 where he worked in two casinos and lived there for 22 years before moving to Minden for approximately nine years. Ed enjoyed traveling, especially to Hawaii annually on vacations, seeing relatives and friends. He looked forward to drinking coffee with friends at Daylight Donut shop in Minden and at Perkins Restaurant in Kearney. Ed was preceded in death by: parents; sisters, Lois Gregory, Eileen Goodall and Roberta Johnson and many nephews and nieces. Inurnment was in the Riverside Cemetery, Gibbon, NE.
