Read More	Chronicle Herald - Tuesday, 15 September 1964 - Page 9 - Former Lunenburg Fire Chief, 89, Dies - Lunenburg - William Oliver, 89, died at home on Sunday evening. Born in Leigh-on-Sea, England, he came to Canada over 50 years ago and joined the freight staff of the Canadian National Railways. He served overseas with the 25th Regiment. On his return after the war he joined the militia and was for some time sergeant-major of the Lunenburg Regiment. On his return from World War I, he returned to the local freight office and served there until his retirement 24 years ago. When the local Sea Cadet Corps was formed early in World War II he became its commanding officer, a post he held for nine years. He is a former chief of the Lunenburg Fire Department, a master of United Masonic Lodge, and a past president of the Lunenburg Branch Royal Canadian Legion. He has been for many years an elder of Central United Church. Besides his wife, the former Mabel Knickle, he is survivied by two sons, Frederick and Leonard of Halifax; three daughters, Lillian (Mrs. Stephen Mosher) and Ethel (Mrs. Leo Corkum) of Lunenburg, and Mabel (Mrs. Kenneth Ritchie) of Montral. The funeral will be held Tuesday afternoom from Sweeny's Funeral Home at 2:30 o'clock, Rev. Ralph Webber will conduct the service. Interment will be in Hillcrest cemetery.
