Bethard, a former resident of Crisfield, who for some time has been making his home in Claymont, Del., passed away on Friday last at a Chester (Pa.) hospital, where he had been a patient for one week. Mr. Bethard, or "Willie", as he was known to hundreds of warm friends, was forty-eight years of age and was the son of Mr. E. H. Bethard, prominent Maryland avenue grocer, and Mrs. Ella Bethard who reside on Chesapeake avenue. In Crisfield, where he spent many years of his life, Mr. Bethard was widely known and had a host of friends who mourn his passing. Too, his many sterling traits of character were well known to those who knew him throughout this section. By occupation he was an electrician, a trade which he knew thoroughly, and at which he was quite adept. His great knowledge of this work, as well as his willingness to apply himself to any task laid out for him made him a valuable employee. He had been in ill health approximately five months when overtaken by death. Following his passing on Friday last, the body was brought to Crisfield where it rested at the home of his parents, from which final services were held, until the hour of the funeral. Final rites were conducted at 3:30 o'clock Sunday afternoon by Rev. J.R. Bicking, pastor of the Immanuel Methodist Church. and Rev. J. Yancey Fincher, pastor of the Baptist Temple. Interment was in the family plot in the Crisfield cemetery. Pall-bearers were Rupert Somers, George Ellison Sterling, Edgar McCready, Edward Sterling, Elton Massey and Vincent Bonomo. Besides his parents Mr. Bethard is survived by his widow. Mrs. Mary Rodney Bethard, and one daughter, Mrs. Angeline Wright, both of Claymont. Six sisters, Mrs. Pearl Lawson, Mrs. Maude Sterling, Mrs. Ruby Dize, Mrs. Marie Adams and Mrs. Dorothy Sterling, all of Crisfield and the suburbs, and Mrs. Grace Willey, or Ridley Park, Pa.; and two brothers.
