Description	:	William Eslinger, 83, Bismarck, went to his Heavenly home on June 6, 2006, at a Bismarck care center. Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 10:00 AM at Cathedral of the Holy Spirit in Bismarck with Rev. Thomas E. Kramer officiating. William was born on January 26, 1923, on a farm near Garrison, North Dakota, the son of Ray and Lydia (Boger) Eslinger. He was raised and educated near Garrison, graduating from Garrison High School in 1941. He then moved to Bismarck and worked at the Bank of North Dakota as a bookkeeper until he joined the US Marine Corps where he was stationed at Camp Pendleton. From there, he was briefly stationed at Kona, Hawaii, and was then shipped to join the invasion of Iowa Jima. William witnessed the raising of Old Glory on top of Mount Sarabachi from his foxhole. After his discharge in 1946, William went to work selling bulk oil in Garrison. He married Marjorie Bohlin on May 11, 1946, in Bismarck. They were the first couple to be married at the Cathedral of the Holy Spirit Church. They made their home in Garrison. While in Garrison, William joined the American Legion, founded the first VFW Post within the city, and was a charter member and was active in the Junior Chamber of Commerce, becoming the first elected state secretary of the ND Junior Chamber of Commerce around 1955. William moved to Bismarck where he managed a Phillips 66 gas station. He then moved to Minot and entered into an oil jobbership for ten years and then moved back to Bismarck where he purchased B&J Standard Service from which he retired in 1977. He was also a realtor for a short time. After retirement, William became active in the Bismarck Chamber of Commerce, serving on its board of directors for three years. While at this post, he helped form the very first Visitors and Convention Bureau for the Chamber. William volunteered serving on Bismarck VFW Post 1326 board of directors. He was a life member of VFW Post 1326, Disabled American Veteran's Chapter #3 of Bismarck/Mandan, American Legion in Garrison, Elks Lodge 1199 of Bismarck, International War Veterans of America, and American Legion 40 et 8. He was also a member of the VFW Military Order of the Cooties, Bismarck Eagles Aeries, and ND Iwo Jima Veterans Association. William had a very busy life. He enjoyed his travels, visiting his family, and he loved to keep his nose to the grindstone. He is survived by his wife, Marjorie of Bismarck; his daughters and son-in-law, Renee and Thomas Caswell of Roseville, California, and Norma Eslinger of Bismarck; his sons and daughter-in-law, George and Kay Eslinger of Bismarck, and Paul Eslinger of Boulder, Colorado; his sister and brother-in-law, Betty and George Dendinger of Rugby, North Dakota; his brother and sister-in-law, Orin and Sharon Eslinger of Garrison, North Dakota; his sisters-in-law, Helen Eslinger of Garrison and Wanda Eslinger of Morgan Hill, California; his grandchildren, Matt Eslinger, Greg Eslinger, Sarah Caswell, Michael Caswell, and Kristin Larson; and his great-grandchild, Thomas Murdock. William was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Ervin, Elmer, and Emil; his sister and brother-in-law, Darlene and Roy Melhoff; and his grandson, Jered Eslinger. In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorials be given to the Fairview Cemetery Veteran's Memorial, PO Box 7151, Bismarck, ND 58507.
