William "Bill" Franklin Korns was born July 27, 1935, on a farm near Hartwick, Iowa. His parents were John Calvin Korns and Laura Franklin Korns. Bill received his education in the Hartwick School graduating from high school in 1954. He attended Parsons College, Fairfield, for a period of one and one-half years. Bill served in the US Army for three years entering in 1958. On August 10th, 1958, he was married to Doris Rhodes in the Hartwick Church. They were the parents of four children, Sherry, Janice, Charles and Angie. Later they were divorced. Bill was married to Janet Cronbaugh Rhinehart on March 3, 1973, in Brooklyn. Bill drove a truck for Manatts, worked at Rhinehart Feed Store, sold Mormans Feed, and was a custodian at BGM Elementary School for 19 years retiring in 1997. He then attended Vernard College at University Park for three years. He was licensed to preach in December 1997 and ordained in January 2001. He then served as Pastor of the Church of the Brethren until it closed. Bill was a member of the Church of the Brethren and attended the First Presbyterian Church, Brooklyn. He was a member of the Kiwanis Club. He served on the BGM School Board for two terms and once was a member of the Brooklyn Auxiliary Police Force. Bill enjoyed golf, reading, sports, traveling, volunteering and was manager of KSKB radio station. Most of all was spending time with his grandchildren. His parents and a granddaughter, Jenny Korns, preceded him in death. Surviving are his wife, Janet; three sons, Charles Korns, Mark Rhinehart and wife Kayleen, and Steven Rhinehart, all of Brooklyn; four daughters, Sherry Johnson and husband Steve, Darla Ingersoll and husband Tim, Janice Korns, all of Brooklyn, and Angie Bayer and husband Joel of Victor; one brother and his wife, Dennis and Linda Korns of Brooklyn; two sisters, Kay Korns of Trenton, Michigan and Sharon McIntosh and husband John of Marion, Iowa; eleven grandchildren, Brandi Ingersoll, Blain Kupka, Travis Wilson, Cody Wilson, Brettney Korns, Nick Wilson, Calvin Korns, Amanda Johnson, Kaden Rhinehart, William Bayer and Owen Bayer. Funeral services for Bill Korns were held at 10:30 AM Saturday, May 21, 2005, at the First Presbyterian Church, Brooklyn, IA. Rev. John Reynolds, Pastor, officiated. The musician was Marilyn Kriegel and the soloist was Joan Gerard. Special selections were "In The Garden" and "Ivory Palaces." Casket-bearers were Jason Korns, Blake Korns, Clay Korns, Shawn Korns, Travis Wilson and Blain Kupka. Interment was in the Brooklyn Memorial Cemetery. A memorial fund has been established. Nevenhoven Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
