Description	:	SPROUT, WILLIAM—William Sprout, former Geneva resident, passed away Friday, September 24, 1937, at the home of his widowed daughter, Mrs. Grace Munson, at Franklin. He was ninety-one years of age August 29, 1937. Mr. Sprout came to Fillmore county from Illinois in 1896. He was a neighbor of John Stephenson on the farm. He moved to Franklin in 1901, and engaged in cattle buying and farming. Mr. Sprout was the last surviving Civil War veteran in Franklin county. Read More	SPROUT, WILLIAM—William Sprout, former Geneva resident, passed away Friday, September 24, 1937, at the home of his widowed daughter, Mrs. Grace Munson, at Franklin. He was ninety-one years of age August 29, 1937. Mr. Sprout came to Fillmore county from Illinois in 1896. He was a neighbor of John Stephenson on the farm. He moved to Franklin in 1901, and engaged in cattle buying and farming. Mr. Sprout was the last surviving Civil War veteran in Franklin county. Before moving to Franklin, Mr. Sprout was a member of Wilson post No. 22, G. A. R. of Geneva. Last Decoration Day, he attended the program at Geneva, and was photographed with two Geneva veterans, Henry Sheldon and John Whited. Mr. Sprout was ill only a week. The funeral was held Saturday afternoon at Franklin. Interment occurred Sunday afternoon at the Geneva cemetery. The Franklin post of the American Legion was in charge of the service at the grave with a firing squad from the Geneva Legion post firing a salute. Dr. Edward W. Day of Geneva offered prayer. The state commander and chaplain of the G. A. R. were present. A delegation from the Geneva Daughters attended. Mr. Sprout is survived by four sons, Vern of Iowa, Falls, Ia., Ern of Yuma, Col., Lee of Lamar, Col., and Melvin of Franklin, two daughters, Mrs. Grace Munson of Franklin and Mrs. George Babb of Champaign, Ill., several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Mrs. J. B. McGreer of Geneva is a sister. Among those here to attend the funeral Sunday were Mr. and Mrs. A. M. Smith of Superior, and Dr. and Mrs. Clyde Cross and son and daughter of Lincoln. They were all at Franklin Saturday for the funeral service held there and spent Saturday night at Superior. Mrs. Smith was Miss Jessie Morgan, daughter of the late John Morgan of Geneva, before her marriage. Mrs. Cross is a step-daughter of the deceased. Others present were Mr. and Mrs. Vern Sprout and two children, Mr. and Mrs. Lee Sprout, Mr. and Mrs. Ern Sprout and daughter and husband, Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Sprout and Mr. and Mrs. George Babb.
