McGREER, IDA BELLE—Mrs. Ida Huston McGreer, a pioneer Geneva citizen, passed away December 29, 1952, at the home of a daughter, Mrs. Mart Schmode, at Windsor, Col., at the age of 87. She had been in feeble health several years. Mrs. McGreer, whose maiden name was Ida Belle Sprout, was born at Wheaton, Ill., February 2, 1865. She came with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Alexander Sprout, to Fillmore county, Nebraska, in October, 1883. The family settled in Chelsea township, which was the family home many years. She was married February 3, 1886, to Walter Scott Huston of Geneva, who passed away June 28, 1926. To this union were born six children, Mrs. Beth Cherry of Eugene, Ore., Mrs. Faye Nicholas of Halsey, Ore., Lela, (deceased), Mrs. Ruth Killion of Fairfield, Neb., Mrs. Hazel Schmode of Windsor, Col., and Walter V. Huston of Kansas City, Mo. June 12, 1930, Mrs. Huston was united in marriage to John Berry McGreer, who died November 2, 1936. Mrs. McGreer continued to make her home in Geneva until failing health caused her to sell the home to Mr. and Mrs. Frank Kovanda in 1947, and make her home with her children. She had been a member of the Geneva Methodist church since 1894, being one of its oldest members. She was very active in the various departments as long as she was able to attend. She was a member of the official board and for many years was especially interested in the Home Missionary Society of the church. She never missed a service of the church unless she was ill. Her unwavering faith in God and loyalty to her church has been an inspiration to all who knew her. Besides her five children, she leaves to mourn her death nine grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. Funeral services were conducted from the Methodist church in Geneva, January 2; at 2:30 p. m. Dr. F. E. Pfoutz gave the tribute. Rev. Norman Crounse, minister of the Methodist church at Fairfield read the scriptures and offered prayer. Mrs. H. A. Rosenau sang "God Will Take Care of You" and "Under His Wings," accompanied by Mary Ann Hrubesky at the organ. Pallbearers were Melvin Ellison, John Gewacke, Howard Hamilton, Harold Heath, Kenneth Helsey and Melvin Ralston. Interment was in the Geneva cemetery. The Nebraska Signal January 8, 1953 page 1.
