Description	:	The Tecumseh Chieftain, Dec. 7, 1918: "The home of Mr. and Mrs. F. H. W. Bartels, three miles north and one mile west of Mayberry, has indeed been sadly afflicted by the Spanish influenza epidemic. Adolph, the eldest son, passed away at 5:30 o'clock p.m. on Saturday, November 30, 1918, of pneumonia following the influenza. They were good, obedient children, greatly beloved by the grief-stricken parents and other children of the family and admired by their neighbors and other friends. Adolph was aged nineteen years and seven days, and Vila was fourteen years, eight months and twenty-five days in age. Both were members of the German Lutheran church southeast of this city, of which Rev. H. F. Grupe is the pastor. Besides the parents, they are survived by three brothers, Albert, Paul and Norman, and one sister, Selma, all at home. The parents, brothers and sister have the sympathy of their friends in their great sorrow. Both funerals were held at the Grupe church, and the minister named officiated at both. That of Adolph was held on Monday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock, and that of Viola on Thursday afternoon at the same hour. The burials were in the cemetery near the church mentioned."
