In America, the Fricke's first settled near Mankato, Minnesota, later removing to a farm at nearby Belgrade township, over the county line, in Nicholett. When William was about two years old, his family moved to Dovray, MN. Later to Cottonwood. These moves were in sync with the Cohrs family, not Fricke's. Most of the Fricke's remained in the Mankato and Nicholett area. In 1902, William's father took his family and moved to Washington. William would have been 27 years old and newly married in those times. Nothing is said if he went with his father. Some of the Fricke's returned east and lived at Baldwin, ND. The obit does not state if William went west with his father and later was to Baldwin....or if he was already in Baldwin and chose to stay. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Obituary: William Fricke Is Taken By Death Former County Commissioner Succumbs To Death William Fricke Sr., 12 years a member of the Burleigh County Board of Commissioners until Jan.1, 1939, passed away Sunday at 9:47 p.m. in a local hospital. Mr. Fricke had been ailing with heart trouble for the past two years. He was 63 years old. Mr. Fricke, one of the better known men in public life, was born in Mankato, Minn. Nov.17,1875, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Fricke, pioneer Southern Minnesota farmers. On Feb.2, 1898, he married Miss Amelia Rupp at Dovray, Minn. In the fall of 1903, the Fricke's moved to a farm near Baldwin where they resided until December 1930, when they moved into Baldwin. During his residence at Baldwin, Mr. Fricke took the role of a leader in community affairs. A quiet, affable man with a knack for detailed work, his abilities were recognized by his election to the boards of Crofte and Glenview townships, positions he held for a period of over 30 years. Elected in 1925 Mr. Fricke was elected to the board of county commissioners in the fall election of 1925 and took office Jan.1, 1926. He served continuosly until this year. He also was a member of the Bureigh County Welfare Board. Funeral Services will be conducted from the First Presbyterian church in Bismarck Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. with Rev. Floyd E. Logee, pastor, officiating, assisted Rev. C.A. Balcom of Wilton. Mr. Fricke leaves four sons and three daughters. The sons are William Jr., Ernest, Arthur and Herbert, all of Baldwin. The daughters are Mrs. John Mount, Driscoll; Mrs. Clyde Brooks and Mrs. Wallace Falkenstein, both of Wilton; there are 16 grandchildren. Mr. Fricke also leaves four brothers, Louis, Ernest and Henry, all of Rockford, Wash., Charles of Alberta, Canada, and three sisters, Mrs. L.C. Kaping, Monroe, Ore.; Mrs. William Faire, Spokane, and Mrs. Henry Johns, Rockford, Wash. The body will lie in state at Convert Funeral home from Tuesday afternoon until time of the funeral.
