Description	:	William G. Johnston was the son of Thomas Johnston and Susan McMath. He was the grandson of Zachariah Johnston and Ann Robertson and great grandson of William Johnston and Ann, his wife. I have not found William on the 1840 VA Census. His brother Zechariah is in Lexington. I have not found William Johnston on the 1850 Virginia Census using various spellings and even searches with his first name or abbreviation. His brother Zechariah is under Johnson. Jim kindly photographed this gravestone in Jan 2012 and also sent me closeup photos of it.... Read More	William G. Johnston, 1819 - 1854. The Jackson Memorial Cemetery Survey, Complete to 1960 (survey is incomplete) by Col. William Couper, (copy from Washington & Lee University, Leyburn Library, Special Collections) page 14 says: "Sacred to the memory of William G. Johnston son of Thomas and Susan Johnston who was born Jan. the 27th, 1779* and departed this life, December the 15th 1854." * Birth year is incorrect in this transcription.
