G Van Leeuwen the son of Mr. and Mrs. Gerard Johan Van Leeuwen, was born in the Netherlands on April 22, 1887, and departed this life on June 3, 1962, at the age of 75 years, 1 month and 12 days. Mr. Van Leeuwen came to America alone in 1909, at the age of 22, and first lived in Kansas, later moving to North Dakota, and later to Iowa. He lived in the Hull area since 1916. He was married to Rena Slothouber on March 11, 1913. To this union three children were born. They spent their years together farming until Mrs. Van Leeuwen (Rena) died on January 9, 1946. Soon after Mr. Van Leeuwen moved to the town of Hull where he spent the remaining of his life. Mr. Van Leeuwen was well known and highly respected in this community. He was an ardent lover of flowers and a great portion of his later years was spent in the development and growth of beautiful and colorful flowers. In 1950 Mr. Van Leeuwen returned to his native land and on January of that year married Christina Maria Schurienk of Apeldoorn, Netherlands. They lived together in Hull until his death. Mr. Van Leeuwen was a member of the First Christian Reformed Church of Hull. He was preceded in death by Rena, his first wife, and by two brothers, Hendrich and Arie, one sister, Louisa, and one grandchild in infancy. He is survived by his wife, Christina; one daughter, Marie, Mrs. Peter Wegter, of Hull; two sons, John of Hull, and Gerard of Odessa, Texas; four brothers, Gerard of New Jersey, Louie of Rock Rapids, Iowa, Aduard and Cornelius, both of the Netherlands; three sisters, Wilhelmina of Waupun, Wisconsin, Jacoba of the Netherlands, and Marie of Waupun, Wisconsin; and ten grandchildren.
