Riecker's Long Life Journey Comes To Close On Monday Morning After an extended period of ill health, during which recovery had appeared impossible because of the infirmities of age, the life of William G. Riecker, long time and highly respected resident, came to a termination at his home in Aurora last Monday morning. Mr. Riecker and his family came to Hamilton County fifty-one years ago, and from that time almost to the time of his death he was actively associated with the building of the community, the development of school and church, agriculture, and every worthwhile community enterprise. He was regarded as one of the best farmers in his section of the county, industrious, painstaking, and courageous. Mr. Riecker had continued active until he suffered a sudden attack of illness this week. Mr. Riecker was a man of sincere purpose in all his undertakings, a man devoted to his home circle, true in his friendships, faithful to every trust. Unobtrusive and somewhat retiring, he was yet a leader in any of the things he espoused or with which he was affiliated. His lack of evident desire for place or special honor inspired the confidence of his associates, and he was thus placed in many positions of responsibility, and in none of them did he ever fail in measuring up to the expectations of his friends -socially, in the church, or in his business affairs. In his death, the community loses a man of high ideals, moral courage, and tireless energy. He lived long and well. The funeral services were conducted from the United Brethern Church in Aurora on Wednesday afternoon at two o'clock, with Rev. Paul B. Porter officiating. Wallace Menzie was the soloist, singing "When They Ring the Golden Bells," "The Home of the Soul," and "Beautiful Isle" with Mrs. C. L. Whitney as accompanist. Pall bearers were Horner Reichardt, Carl Oswald, V. C. Ummel, Ed James, Homer Bagby, and Roy Phillips. In the church were relatives, close friends, and old neighbors from many parts of the county, all sincere in their regret at the departure of their aged friend. Burial was in the Aurora Cemetery. The following obituary was read: William G. Riecker son of George and Katherine Weiler Riecker was born in Lake County, Indiana on November 10, 1857, and departed this life at his home in Aurora, Nebraska on November 25, 1940, at the age of 83 years and 15 days. He grew to manhood and lived in his native state for about 32 years. He was united in marriage with Miss Alice Jones on February 24, 1881. Six children were born to bless their horne. In March 1889, he and his family carne to Nebraska and settled on a farm southeast of Aurora. Mrs. Riecker passed away on June 6, 1911. On July 24, 1912, he and Miss Nettie Jones were joined in marriage. Mr. Riecker was a farmer at heart and found great delight in tilling the soil. Nature held a fascination for him and from it he learned many beautiful lessons. After coming to Nebraska, all his years, with the exception of the last, were spent in agricultural pursuits. He joined the Prairie Gem United Brethern Church in 1895 and transferred his membership to the Aurora U. B. Church in 1916. He served as Sunday school superintendent at Prairie Gem and in Aurora. In this capacity, he rendered a splendid service. He taught the young men's Sunday school class in the Prairie Gem church for a number of years. He was a member of the board of trustees of the Aurora U. B. Church and gave largely of his time and money to this institution. Mr. Riecker was a Christian gentleman and was held in high esteem by his friends and neighbors. Those remaining to mourn his passing are his wife; one son, Emory of Aurora; five daughters, Mrs. Lottie Jeffers and Mrs. Mabel Wright of Aurora; Mrs. Nora Peterson of Washington, D. C.; Miss Linnie Riecker of Omaha; and Mrs. Zelma Miller of Lincoln; one sister, Mrs. Katherine Wahl of Hebron, Indiana; two half sisters, Mrs. Rosie Frame of Crown Point, Indiana; and Mrs. Emma Graham of Valparaiso, Indiana; nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; and a host of friends. Relatives from a distance who attended the service were Mr. and Mrs. G. A. Riecker of Norfolk, Verne Jeffers of Omaha, and Maurice Wright of Lincoln.
