Wright, 56, wife of Postmaster Wright, was instantly killed Sunday evening at about 8:40 o'clock when the car in which she was riding with her husband crashed into a state patrol maintainer-snowplow at a point 1 1/2 miles east of Bradshaw. Mr. Wright suffered a severe gash on the knee, cuts about the head and a skull fracture, and was first taken to the York hospital for treatment. He was brought to the Aurora hospital by ambulance Monday afternoon. Mr. Wright's condition is regarded as favorable although he must remain in the hospital for some time. The Wrights were enroute home from Omaha where they had gone to visit their son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Ivan Stauffer, on Friday. Both vehicles were traveling west when the crash occurred and Lawrence Fleek of Seward, operator of the highway patrol, and Dean Myers, also of Seward, who was with him, escaped injury. Fleek told Sheriff Merle Churchill of York county that the red flasher on the rear of the patrol was in operation, but Mr. Wright told the sheriff he did not see the flasher or the maintainer until he crashed into it. The maintainer was traveling about 7 miles an hour. The body of Mrs. Wright, who suffered critical head injuries, was brought to Aurora from York on Monday. Impressive funeral services were conducted from the United Brethren church on Thursday afternoon at 2:00 p.m. In the absence of Dr. Paul Porter, the local pastor, Rev. David Tudor, pastor of the Federated church and a close friend of the family, officiated. W. H. Menzie, accompanied at the organ by Mrs. C. L. Whitney, sang "My Task" and "The Lord's Prayer." The floral tribute was beautiful and abundant. Mabel Riecker was born on June 1, 1890, to the late William G. and Alice Riecker, on their farm near Aurora, one of a family of six children. Her early education was obtained in the rural school of the district, and later she attended York college at York, Nebraska. She was married to Claude J. Wright on December 8, 1909, and to this union two children were born, Maurice, now of Lincoln, Nebraska, and Dorothy, Mrs. Ivan Stauffer, of Omaha. The young couple established their first home in York, Nebraska, where Mr. Wright was employed in a local hardware store. Later they turned to farming near Aurora, when Mr. Wright found employment under Civil Service in the Lincoln postoffice. Since his appointment to the postmastership of the Aurora postoffice in 1934 their home has been continuously here in Aurora. Mrs. Wright was an active member of the local United Brethren church and she took a great interest in all of its activities. Her death will cause a serious loss both to the church and to those who minister there. She was confirmed a member in the Prarie Gem church when 12 years of age. Mrs. Wright was a kind and friendly neighbor, and was always willing to render any help she could in community service. She proved herself very helpful in the clothing and food drives and other efforts which were conducted during the period of the war. She was essentially a homemaker and excelled in her duties as a wife and mother, and in this, it can be truly said of her, as was said of another, "She hath done what she could." Her passing leaves a place that will be hard to fill. She was of a cheerful disposition, quiet, unobtrusive and beloved of a large circle of friends and acquaintances. She leaves beside her husband and two children, one brother, Emory Riecker of Aurora; four sisters, Mrs. Lottie Jeffers and Mrs. Nora Peterson of Lincoln; Mrs. Zelma Miller of Manhattan, Kansas; and Miss Linne Riecker of Omaha; and her second mother, Mrs. W. G. Riecker, who resides in Lincoln. "Sleep undisturbed within Thy hallowed shrine, until an angel comes to wake Thee with a note as sweet as Thine." Pallbearers were Glen Anawalt, Ralph Otto, John Oswald, Ray Sigrist, Lloyd Noble and Glenn Haworth. Committal was in the Aurora cemetery. All members of the deceased's immediate family were present for the services.
