Description	:	This is a letter from WIlliam Harrison Stephenson to his nephew Hiram Stephenson of Jackson, Ohio dated June 1, 1907. "My grandfather's name was John and married Nancy Ewing. Moved from Roanoke, Va., I think, about the time father was 3 years old (1792) to Greenbrier Co. (w. Va.)---afterward moved to Kanawa in Teses Valley which is now Putnam Co. (W. Va.). My grandfather, (John H.) and his family and my father (James) and his family, moved to Ohio in 1814. My grandfather settled about 1 1/2 miles east of Rocky Hill, Ohio, and died and was buried... My grandfather settled about 1 1/2 miles east of Rocky Hill, Ohio, and died and was buried there south of the road, probably about 70 rods from the road on the land that he owned at the time. "His daughter, Ann, was buried there in the same place. Grandfather's family was James. Ella (Eleanor), who married Joseph Scurlock, John, WIlliam, Samuel, Andrew (father of Mrs. Sternberger), Nancy (Mrs. Martin), and Jeremiah. (Name of Joshua Ewing Stephenson added later). "My father and mother were married (my mother's name was Margaret Mc Collister) Nov 1. 1810 then he lists all of family and birthdates which I have here/ ................................... "Grandmother Stephenson was of the noted family of Ewing, of whom Thomas Jr. and Thomas Sr. were th most noted. She died at an advanced age (90 yrs) in Indiana. Father had two uncles who came to Ohio in the early days. One of them, WIlliam, went west later on." *Note: Thomas Ewing was first Secretary of the Interior in 1849, and Secretary of the Treasury in 1841, and Thoas Ewing Jr. was a grneral who fought in the Civil War. written Ruth (Sally) Stephenson 1962
