William Harvey Manbeck only son of John and Jane Manbeck, was born February 25, 1874, in Harrison County, Ohio, and departed this life Friday morning, August 6, 1920, aged 46 years, 5 months and 11 days. His illness was brief being confined to his bed scarcely a day; hence the news of his death came as a great suprise and sudden shock. William Harvey Manbeck only son of John and Jane Manbeck, was born February 25, 1874, in Harrison County, Ohio, and departed this life Friday morning, August 6, 1920, aged 46 years, 5 months and 11 days. His illness was brief being confined to his bed scarcely a day; hence the news of his death came as a great suprise and sudden shock. The Manbeck family came to Iowa in 1882, when Harvey was but a boy, eight years, and they have lived in Van Buren County ever since. There is left to mourn his early departure, the aged parents, one sister, Mrs. Anna B. Nedrow, wife of Irvin L. Nedrow, 2 nieces and 1 nephew, Ruth Alice, Ruby Esther and Lehr Stanley, Nedrow. He united with Zion Lutheran Church near Douds, Iowa, June 18, 1899, and has ever remained faithful, not only to his vow but in every way; being ear ________ of the church council, ____rces w___ tentative to Synod and Conte_____ __ud most generous to local and other worthy causes. He was absolutely above reproach not only remembering his duty toward God, but his father and mother to whom he was boon(?sp) companion and constant friend. He was quiet and unassuming, minding his own business, helping the needy night and day if necessary, serving others in His name truly faithful until the end and surely receiving the crown of life. His memory will be blessed and he will be greatly missed not only by those near and dear by ties of kinship or friendship but by all in the community who had the pleasure of his acquaintance. After a brief service at the parental home, the funeral cortege wended its way "over the hill" to the church he loved so well and served so faithfully, Zion Lutheran Church, the Rev. Carl A. Sundberg of Carthage, Ill., a former pastor officating. Subject of the message Christs' Comfort. Text, John 14:1. The Male Quarted(sp) of Douds, the Messrs. O.A. Finney, A.L. Doud, Mark Doud and J.A. Bundy, furnished appropriate music at the home, church and grave. The pall bearers were young men, the Mssrs. Logan Sadler, Lester Bennett, Geo. Hill, Gilmore Horn, Sam Channel and Ernest Greenfield. Interment was made in the family lot in Zion cemetery. He rests from his labors and sleeps the sleep of the blessed of the Lord to await the resurrection morn. Source: Van Buren Co.
