Hasemann, marked the passing of Scribner’s oldest pioneer. Having been in failing health during the past year, he was able to be up and around and occasionally took a walk to the business section of town. He had been bedfast the past three weeks. Despite his age, Mr. Hasemann had a keen mind and retained all his faculties, although his eyesight became dimmed. He took great pride in the upkeeping of the farm east of Scribner, where he located in 1881 after a nine year residence in Chicago, where he followed the trades of masonry and butchering. His art of sausage making was known far and wide and during the January and February winter butchering period, the farmers of the community would call upon Mr. Hasemann to make the several varieties that always were faultless. Mr. Hasemann came to America from Germany in 1872 with his father and sister. He fought in a war for two years in Germany. He was married to Miss Anna Hatendorf who preceded her husband in death on May 5, 1906. In 1937, the deceased and Mr. and Mrs. H. W. Hasemann moved to the present home in Scribner. Harvey Hasemann, a grandson now operates the home place and incidentally is of the third generation to occupy the farm. Funeral services were held at the home Wednesday at 1:30 and at 2 p.m. at St. Paul’s Lutheran church with Rev. Hugo Welchert officiating. Burial was made at the church cemetery. The numerous and beautiful floral pieces was indicative of the high esteem held for the departed pioneer. A men’s quartet accompanied by Mrs. Hugo Welchert, furnished special music. They were William Havekost of Hooper, Chris Meyer, Henry Wobken and George F. Meyer. Numbers sung were “Closer To Home” (German), and “Have Thine Own Way.” Pallbearers were nephews, all sons of the deceased’s brother, the late Henry Hasemann, namely H. A., Otto, Fred, Herman, W. H. and Walter Hasemann. He is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Adolph Grosc, whose golden wedding anniversary he helped celebrate in 1940, two sons, H. W. of Scribner and William of Venanga; eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren also survive. Mr. Hasemann was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran church and assisted in the planning of the present church building.
