| Description | : | Continental Congressman. A member of a Maryland family prominent in Queen Anne's and Talbot Counties, Hemsley owned and operated the family estate, Clover Fields Farm, near Queenstown. In 1773 he was appointed Provincial Treasurer for Maryland's Eastern Shore and Talbot County Surveyor. During the Revolution he supplied the Continental Army with flour and other supplies, and in 1777 became Colonel of the Queen Anne's County Militia's Twentieth Battalion and county Justice of the Peace.
