(Bill Thread) Sterling was found dead in his home in the Asbury section last Friday morning, death having been caused by a heart attack. He had not been feeling well for several days but it was not realized that his condition was so serious. He made his home with his sister, Mrs. Cornelia J. Sterling, who was visiting in Pennsylvania at the time. The son of the late James K. and Harriett Sterling, he was 77 years of age. For most of his life Mr. Sterling followed the water or worked in seafood packing establishments. He had never married. a few years ago he retired, but seldom a day passed but that he was to be seen coming to Crisfield or going home from here, usually walking the approximately two miles he lived from the business section of the city. Well known and well liked, "Bill Thread" was an entertaining man to talk to, as he had numerous anecdotes at his tongue's end which he told in that inimitable way that seems a heritage from ancestors who lived close to nature and often saw signs and omens in natural events which others would have overlooked. News of his death was received with sincere sorrow to the community. His body reposed at the Lawson & Hubbard Funeral Home until Sunday afternoon, when services were held in the Pilgrim Holiness Church at 2:30 o'clock, conducted by Rev. J. T. Rowlenson. Interment was in the Sterling lot in Asbury cemetery. The casket was banked with many beautiful floral pieces, and notwithstanding the fact that the weather was bad, the church was filled with sorrowing relatives and friends there to pay their last respects to a man they held in real regard. Pallbearers were Quinn Sterling, Gordon Sterling, Dewey Mason, Bertram Mason, Ismer Burch and Page Sterling. He is survived by one sister, Mrs. Cornelia J. Sterling.
