Will Embree, a farmer, fifty two years old and a resident of two miles southeast of Grant, committed suicide Tuesday of this week by having himself by means of a sweater coat belt to bedpost in the bedroom at his home. Coroner Walter Sellergren of Stanton was summoned to hold an inquest over the dead man's body and pronounced that deceased had come to his death by hanging. Mr. Embree had been sick for about a week, though relatives had never considered his condition serious. The relatives do say, however, that he had become despondent as a result of his sickness and that he had seemed discouraged at, though never never confined to his bed with his sickness. His brother, Albert Embree, who lived about a half mile north of the Will Embree home, and visited the farm three or four times a day during his sickness and assisted him with his chores and inquired about his condition and administered to his wants at all times. Found Dead by Grant Embree Tuesday forenoon, Albert Embree prepared to come to Villisca on matters of business and while enroute to this city stopped at his brother's to see how he fared at that time. That was about noon. In his opinion his brother was not better then and being somewhat worried, he phoned his brother Grant that he should visit the sick brother while he was gone to Villisca. When Grant Embree arrived at the home of his brother at about three o'clock he found his lifeless body suspended from the bedpost, the victim of his own hand having tied the sweater about his neck. Apparently he had slid toward the floor until the weight of his body choked him to death. Was Single and Prosperous Will Embree never married. As stated he was a man more than fifty years of age and had spent most of his life in the vicinity of Grant. He was a hard worker and had accumulated a goodly amount of stock and other property. He was the owner of the farm on which he resided. Mr. Embree's parents have both preceded him in death, but he is survived by three brothers and one sister. The brothers are Grant Embree of three miles east of Grant; Albert Embree of southeast of Grant; and Sam Embree of Elliott. Mrs. Riley Curry of two and one half miles west of Grant is a sister of the deceased. The funeral services were held Thursday morning of this week at ten o'clock at the Methodist Church in, Rev. C. F. Smith of Grant Methodist Church conducted the funeral. The burial was made in the Grant Cemetery. Villisca Review, May 12, 1917, page 1 William H.
