Description	:	W. H. Illian passed away at his home in Albion, Saturday, February 1st. He had been in failing health for the last few years, his decline being more rapid the past two and a half years following a light stroke. For several months he had been confined to his home. He had been in failing health for the last few years, his decline being more rapid the past two and a half years following a light stroke. For several months he had been confined to his home. Mr. Illian was born in Scott county, Iowa, June 30th, 1858. He grew to manhood there and for nine years engaged in teaching school. From Iowa he came to Humphrey, Nebraska, where he lived for a number of years, serving for a time as postmaster and engaging in the banking business. He came to Albion about thirty years ago and bought a number of farms in this vicinity for investment and rental purposes. In 1917 Mr. Illian was elected mayor of Albion and was re-elected the following year. He also served on the city council and after his retirement as mayor, was appointed paving inspector for the city when the business district was paved. He was elected state senator, three terms, serving in the legislature in 1921, 1923 and 1925. He was considered one of the most active members of the senate during those sessions and was always placed on the more important committees in recognition of his business ability and keen insight into the needs of the state. He was held in high regard by his many friends who appreciated his generous qualities and his firmness of character. He was kind to his family and to all who were dependent upon him. Mr. Illian was married to Miss Adda A. Fox at Omaha in October 1897. Mrs. Illian died at their home in Humphrey on January 23, 1899. On September 28, 1915, he was married to Elizabeth Leedom at Fairmont, Nebraska, who survives him. Others to mourn his passing are his brother, Frank Illian of Primrose, and two sisters, Mrs. Frank Bunker of Newton, Ia., and Mrs. J. R. Dose of Stockton, Ia., besides other relatives and friends. Mrs. Illian’s brother, Robert Kleppinger and Mrs. Kleppinger have been at the Illian home for some time helping Mrs. Illian. The funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon from the Congregational church, conducted by Rev. Charles Good. Interment was made in Rose Hill cemetery. Relatives from a distance who were here for the funeral besides those mentioned above were: Mrs. Nel Paulson, Kellogg, Iowa; Glen Bunker, Netwon, Iowa; Mrs. Rose Garmire, sister of Mrs. Illian and daughter, Mrs. Delma Wilson of Hebron; Jack Kasparek and Joe Davis of David City, friends of Mr. Illian were also here.
