Description	:	William Henry Marsden was born January 20, 1868 in Pennsylvania, the first child of John and Margaret (McIntire/Cullen) Marsden. His father was working in the coal mines in Luzerne County at the time. By 1875 the family had moved to Winona County, Minnesota, and then on to Boone County, Iowa, by 1880. On July 2, 1892, in Delta, Keokuk County, Iowa, William married Bitha Cornelia Palmatier, the daughter of Jesse and Catherine (Grush) Palmatier. Read More	William Henry Marsden was born January 20, 1868 in Pennsylvania, the first child of John and Margaret (McIntire/Cullen) Marsden. His father was working in the coal mines in Luzerne County at the time. By 1875 the family had moved to Winona County, Minnesota, and then on to Boone County, Iowa, by 1880. On July 2, 1892, in Delta, Keokuk County, Iowa, William married Bitha Cornelia Palmatier, the daughter of Jesse and Catherine (Grush) Palmatier. They had two sons, Marcus (1894-1936), and Cleo (1897-1972), both born in Story County, Iowa. William was a "general merchant" in Gilbert, Story County, Iowa, until a fire in 1894 wiped out a whole block including his business. In the 1910 census, the family was living in Thornburg, Keokuk County, Iowa, and William was listed as a retail merchant. They moved on to Manly, Iowa, and finally by 1920 they were living in Mason City, Cerro Gordo, Iowa. His wife, Bitha, died in 1929. William was the proprietor of a grocery store on North Federal Street in Mason City for 25 years. His son, Marcus, later joined him in the business and they were together until Marcus died of cancer in 1936. On November 5, 1946, at the age of 78, William died in Mason City. We was survived by his son, Cleo, who was living in California and a brother, Peter A. Marsden, and a sister, Mrs. John (Agnes) Mackey, both of Boone County. He was buried in the Manly cemetery with his wife, Bitha.
