Uncle William Henry as he was familiarly known, had the rare distinction of living on the same farm, two miles south of the North Grove church, for seventy-four years. Thus he saw the developments and improvement of what was a vast prairie when he came to this community. Looking into the future and feeling the need of religious training and education for not only his own children and grandchildren, but also the children of the settlers who would come later, he took an active part in the building and maintaining of the churches and schools of his community. At the outbreak of the Civil War he had a desire to go to the front and defend the Union, and his flag, but owing to a physical disability he could not pass the medical examination. When only a boy he accepted the teachings of Christ and started living a Christian life, and thus for over seventy years to the time of his death lived a life honored and respected by all who knew him. William H. Orme, son of William and Elizabeth Orme was born April 27, 1840, in Knox Co, Ohio. In 1854 he moved with his parents to Oskaloosa, Iowa. In 1856 they came to Page County, settling on a farm north of Hawleyville, where he lived the remainder of his life. He passed away April 23, 1930, at the age of 89 years, 11 mo. and 26 days. At an early age he joined the M.E. church becoming a charter member of the North Grove church in 1877. He was married Nov 17, 1864, to Mary Louisa Moffitt. To this union nine children were born, four of whom died in infancy. One daughter, Minerva Campbell preceded her father in death, July 25, 1928. The children living are Lizzie M. West, Guernsey, Wyo., Melissa L. Campbell and Bertha L. Campbell, both of Lamoni, Ia., and Elbert R. of Neola, Ia. The wife and mother, Mary Louise Orme, died Jan 22, 1879. On October 26, 1880, he was united in marriage to Mary Ann Disney. To this union were born three children, one child dying in infancy. The living are Ora A. Kendrick of Hepburn and Ralph W. Orme of Villisca. The wife and mother, Mary Anne Orme, died Oct 10, 1912. He leaves fifteen grandchildren and six greatgrandchildren, besides a host of friends and old acquaintances to mourn his departure. The funeral services were held Friday afternoon at the North Grove church conducted by Rev L.B. Carpenter of Villisca, assisted by Rev Dayhoff of Nodaway, Ia. The singing was by Mrs F.E. Shane, Mrs S. Joliffe, Albert Davie and Everett Glackmyer, with Erma Edwards at the piano. The pallbearers were the six grandsons of the deceased. Burial was in the cemetery joining the church.
