In the fullness of years he passed away at the home of his son Elmore C. Huxtable at Sulphur Springs, Iowa, on Wednesday, February 24, 1943. He had attained the age of 85 years, 2 months, 3 days. On September 15, 1879, he and Leah Heath were married at Mineral Point, Wisconsin. They made their home at that place until the spring of 1885 when they made their home at Newell, Iowa. Here they spent fifty-eight years. Their golden wedding was observed, September 15, 1929. Those years were as beautiful as the countryside grew to be during all this period of development. They had a great place in its planning and growth and the evidences of their influence are apparent on every hand. They will long be carried in grateful remembrance in the hearts of their fellow citizens, neighbors and church fellowships. There were born to them five children, all of whom grew to rich maturity of life. One daughter; Mrs. Ed. Lewis preceded him in death, March 7th, 1913, /those living are Mrs. Jennie Hoveden of Laurens, Iowa; Elmore C. Huxtable of Sulphur Springs, Iowa; Mrs. Ada Phillips, of Newell, Iowa; and Mrs. Velma Zinn of Storm Lake, Iowa. There are also 11 grand children and 10 great grandchildren. One grandson, LeRoy Phillips, is now overseas in the armed service of his country. One sister, Mrs. Celia Ching, of Mineral Point, Wisconsin, also survives. Mrs. Huxtable passed away June 26, 1933, after 54 years of beautiful family life. There were two things that claimed his major attention; his family and his church. In their early days in Newell, while this church was in its infancy they became identified with it, being received both husband and wife, into its membership in 1894 under the pastorate of the Reverend J. H. Lory. Their relation has been continuous and active during all the years that followed. Brother Huxtable served in many official capacities. For more than twenty-seven years he has served as a member of the Board of Trustees and Stewards. In the official activities made necessary by the historic unification of Methodism it became his privilege during the past year to sign the articles of Re-incorporation. This was one of the few times he has made his signature in recent years. In his active years he was also keenly interested on the fraternal circles of the Masonic and Odd Fellow lodges. As his failing health narrowed the sphere of his activities the "country beautiful" became increasingly real to him, and he often spoke of it with happy anticipation. The gates of the larger life have opened to him. We are sure the Good Shepherd was with him when he walked through the valley of the shadow of death and guided him safely into the heavenly fold. "Loving and kind in all of his ways, Upright and just to the end of his days." Funeral services were held in the First Methodist Church of Newell, Iowa, February 26, 1943 at 2:30 pm. His pastor the Rev. Dr. Kari W. G. Hiller conducted the services, speaking courageous. Assisting in the service was the Rev. Mr. J. M. Bloomquist of the Sulphur Springs Presbyterian church. Music was rendered by Prof. and Mrs. Roger Polly who sang: "beyond the Sunset" and "Good Night and Good Morning." Mrs. Edna Witter was accompanist. Pall Bearers were George M. Allee, Floyd Bellows, Harold Hemmingsen, John Maddox, Guy Mack, and Raymond Ellrich.
