Beck was born Christmas Day, 1875, in Wittenberg Province, Germany, coming with his family to Centerville, S. Dak., when he was four years old. When he was 16 years old his family moved from Centerville to Armour, S. Dak. He moved to his farm six miles northwest of ELGIN, N. Dak, in 1906 and married Lydia Ensminger at Old Leipzig, N. Dak., in 1907. Beck spent 19 months as an American soldier in Cuba during the Spanish-American war. Funeral services will be conducted at the German Lutheran church at ELGIN at 2 p. m. Thursday and burial will be made in the ELGIN cemetery. Private funeral services will be conducted at the Beck home at 1 p. m. Thursday. Rev. George Lundgrave, pastor of the ELGIN church, will conduct the services. He leaves his wife and five children, Anna, Victor, Inez, Karl, and Vera. A sister of deceased, Mrs. Louise Youngstrom, resides at Armour, S. Dak.
