Description	:	William J "Bill" Fleissner, 85, Madison, formerly of Clark, died Apr 18, 2011, in a hospital at Madison. He was born Mar 3, 1926, to Mary Bernadette (Birdie White) and George Fleissner in Clark. He was born Mar 3, 1926, to Mary Bernadette (Birdie White) and George Fleissner in Clark. He grew up in Brookings and enlisted in the U.S. Navy Jan 29, 1942, where he served in World War II aboard the Henry T. Allen. He received his honorable discharge Mar 6, 1946. In the 1950s, he worked with his father at the Texaco service station in Brookings. He worked at the Skelgas Division of F&M Oil in Madison and also was a partner in Comfort Engineering. He was appointed as a South Dakota deputy state fire marshal in the summer of 1963 where he served for two years. After working at Guerdon Industry in Madison, he became Guerdon's general construction manager for several years, traveling to Idaho, Kentucky, Arkansas and Nebraska. He worked as a master electrician from the late 70s until his retirement. He was a member of the Madison Fire Department for 15 years. From 1959 to 1963, he was elected secretary of the South Dakota L.P. Gas Association. He was the first director of the Lake County-Madison Civil Defense Program in 1960. He received an honorary high school diploma from Brookings High School Jun 11, 2001. He was a member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Orland and a lifelong member of the American Legion, the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Madison Elks Lodge. He was honored to be able to attend the S.D. Honor Flight with his granddaughter, Brooke in Aug of 2010. He enjoyed seeing the Navy Memorial and the World War II Memorial. He also enjoyed attending his grandchildren's activities. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Melanie Sue. Survivors include his daughter and son-in-law, Carol and Ron Swier of Madison; two grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
