Read More	************************************ CHANUTE TIMES DECEMBER 18, 1908 DEATH OF W.J. COULTER With the death, last Saturday morning of W.J. Coulter, passed away a lone familiar figure on the streets of Chanute, Kansas. Mr. Coulter came to Chanute in 1870. He has been a very active and energetic business man of the city ever since till the last few years, when he turned his business over to his son and retired from active life. Mr. Coulter was an honest upright man in all his dealings. For many years he was the only dray and transfer man of the growing little city. As the business grew he put on more teams and did his work so well and so cheap that competition could not get a foothold against him, though many tried if only to sell out to Mr. Coulter in the course of time. Mr. Coulter leaves a family of grown-up children with the exception of a small child by his last wife, and the widow who is a young woman. At his death he was near 73 years old. He was a prominent member of the Masonic order and was the last of the charter members of the order of this city. The Masons conducted the funeral exercises Sunday evening. A very large crowd of people attended these memorial services over remains of one of Chanute's most respected citizens. Uncle Billy made no pretense or display but attended strictly to his business and by careful management and hard work, accumulated a competency of this world's goods. ******************************** US CIVIL WAR, 1861-1865: Name: William J.
