Description	:	William J. Etbauer, son of John & Frances (Schawbelmeyer) Etbauer, was born in Buffalo Co., SD March 16, 1888. He lived his entire life, except for his last year, on his father's homestead in Grant Township. His father died in 1913. William continued to work with his mother after that, and later bought the home place. William married Margaret Knippling, daughter of John L. & Kathryn ((Wulfekuhle) Knippling, May 7, 1913 at Stephan, SD. They were the parents of sons Eugene John and Raymond Joseph. Etbauer, son of John & Frances (Schawbelmeyer) Etbauer, was born in Buffalo Co., SD March 16, 1888. He lived his entire life, except for his last year, on his father's homestead in Grant Township. His father died in 1913. William continued to work with his mother after that, and later bought the home place. William married Margaret Knippling, daughter of John L. & Kathryn ((Wulfekuhle) Knippling, May 7, 1913 at Stephan, SD. They were the parents of sons Eugene John and Raymond Joseph. William was one of the first members of the ASCS committee of Buffalo and Brule counties. He served many years and staked out many of the dams that were built in the county. He farmed, did blacksmith work for the neighbors, was a carpenter and helped build several building in the community. He was always making things to make his work easier. He made an ice saw to saw cakes of ice from the creeks and ponds to put up in the winter. He made the first power loader stacker that mounted on a tractor, and also made them for several of the neighbors. As a family, they placed for dances in the homes of the neighbors. Margaret played the organ, Eugene play the violin, and Raymond played banjo. William's health failed, and he moved to a nursing home in Miller for his last year. He died November 14, 1969.
