Davis, 87, died at 1 o'clock this morning at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Bess Emery, on highway 71, about three miles west and one and one-fourth miles north of Dedham. Mr. Davis had been ill since last Monday night. Funeral services will be at the Methodist church here but the time has not been set. Davis, 87, died at 1 o'clock this morning at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Bess Emery, on highway 71, about three miles west and one and one-fourth miles north of Dedham. Mr. Davis had been ill since last Monday night. Funeral services will be at the Methodist church here but the time has not been set. The body, now at the Coder Funeral home in Coon Rapids, will be returned to the Emery residence later. Mr. Davis was born in South Wales Oct. 5, 1857. He came to Iowa in 1881 and located at Dedham, having farmed in this community for many years before his retirement. He was married to Miss Elizabeth Davis at Omaha in 1888. Mr. Davis lived at Dedham until after his wife's death March 7, 1922. He had made his home with his daughter, Mrs. Emery, since then. His three surviving children are: Mrs. Mae Allen, Gray; Mrs. Bess Emery, Dedham, and a son, Joy, of the Seabees, who is in the South Pacific. He also leaves three grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Five children preceded him in death. Mr. Emery (sic) was a member of the Methodist church. Davis of near Templeton, born Oct. 5, 1857, in Gwray, South Wales, came to Carroll county in 1888 from Kansas. He was the son of William and Anna Davis, both of whom were Welsh. Since his wife, Elizabeth, died in 1922, Mr. Davis has made his home with a daughter, Mrs. Bess Emery, near Templeton. Enjoying the best of health at eighty-one, he has spent the past three winters in California and only last year visited in Victoria, B.C. Mr. and Mrs. Davis were married in Omaha in 1888. Their children include Joy Davis, and Mrs. Emery, Templeton, and Mae Allen of Gray, Ia. During the flu epidemic in 1891, the Davises lost four children in one week, the oldest dying first and the others following in line with their age, with the youngest succumbing last. Mr. Davis is a member of the Methodist Episcopal Church. Fifty years has been spent in farming near Templeton. Of the eight children in his father's family, Mr. Davis and a brother, Evan, of Victoria, B.C. are the only survivors.
