Description	:	After years of suffering, William J. Hopkins, aged about 44 years passed from this life Sunday morning, April 9, 1899, at his home in Nodaway. In 1894 and 1895 he was in the hardware business in Oakland and doing well, but lost heavily by a fire which consumed his store. At this fire, he contracted by exposure, a cold which resulted in consumption. Read More	After years of suffering, William J. Hopkins, aged about 44 years passed from this life Sunday morning, April 9, 1899, at his home in Nodaway. In 1894 and 1895 he was in the hardware business in Oakland and doing well, but lost heavily by a fire which consumed his store. At this fire, he contracted by exposure, a cold which resulted in consumption. He went to Colorado for his health, but grew worse and about three years ago returned to Iowa an almost helpless invalid. He and his family have had loyal friends in the Odd Fellows and in the Workmen of this city and his funeral Monday was largely attended by those orders and was in charge of the latter. Rev. Sparks assisted by Rev. Hollister conducted the services. Interment was made in Villisca Cemetery. Deceased was well known in Villisca. He taught in the public school one year. He was energetic, careful and conscientious in his work and always carried the respect and esteem of his acquaintances. He leaves a wife, a son aged 12 and two daughters aged 15 and 17.
